A Performative Space for Imaginations in Flux - An Experimental Avant-Garde Theatre in Phocaea
Concept Design,
FLUX-HALLBOX: Metaphor of Imaginations in Flux
Concept
design is the initial stage of the design idea. It does not have a one-to-one
relationship with the main design but it is an abstract representation of the
idea. In this study, we created a hallbox that represents the theatre space
abstractly. We are expected to interpret the metaphor* of imagination in flux
referring to one of our own theatrical performance experiences as an
audience.
Beginning
of the study the box was a black wooden box; however, because of the pandemic
and quarantine, I have to complete it from home and turn to use digital
tools.
*Metaphor is a figurative expression that
refers to something although meaning or mentioning another.
I
went to "The Nether" at Tatbikat theatre, Ankara. It was about the virtual and the real world. Also, it was questioning what truth is and what
wrong is. It was a very complex play about the characters. In the play, there
was a man who has pedophilia. And to protect the world from
himself he creates a virtual word for himself. He is known as PAPA in his
world. Also, other people have access to attend this world and play PAPA's
game. People can be either a kid or a visitor. Different from the real world,
they have a chance to choose their gender, age, appearance, etc. Also, his
world is under investigation in the real-world but since it is not really there
are some conflicts. And there is a man who gave information to the detective
and he is the favorite girl of PAPA. To search for this world, the detective
attends the virtual world. And unconsciously she enjoys the world and falls in
love with a PAPA’s favorite girl who is the witness. Moreover, PAPA’s world
enables people to everything even commit murder. People feel every sense
realizing that they are not real.
