Assignment- 5

Image
RHYTHM Given:  Grey cardboard (27,5 x 39,5) two sets of letters in black and white Asked:  You are required to make a 2D composition representing the concept of rhythm using the letters as design elements. Use al least five letters in your design. you can scale, mirror and rotate the elements or groups. Criticism: It is primitive , there is no variation and it is a pattern.

Assignment- 4

HIERARCHY Given:  Black cardboard 26.5 x 40,5 Craft paper Newspaper Asked:  You are required to make a composition (a relief) representing the concept of hierarchy by using cylindrical shapes made out of newspaper and craft paper. You can use these cylindrical shapes both vertically and horizontally to the black cardboard. You are also required to generate cylinders in various radii and heights. Remember that the cylindrical shapes should be placed seamlessly on the cardboard. Therefore, the black cardboard can contribute to the design as a background element only through the vertical cylinders.  Use only the text, not images, on the newspaper. The dimention of text is an important design parameter that has an influence on your design principles. Criticism : Surface can be more textural and groups can repeat more. Elements which are similar size should have the same height.

Assignment- 3

DOMINANACE and CONTRAST Given: Paper band with a width of 1 cm Black cardboard 29 x 41cm Asked: You are required to make a 2D composition representing the concepts of dominance/ contrast. Stripes of paper band should span from the cardboard's edge to edge. Partial stripes are not allowed.

Assignment- 2.4

REPETITION and VARIATION - 4 Given: Any number of rectangular shapes (square included), triangles, parallelograms and circles (can be used in quarters) Asked : Using the given shapes as design elements, makes a 2D design organization on a black cardboard (31.5 x 41cm). You are required to determine the exact dimentions of these elements. You can also use different propotions of these same shape (i.e. two different propotions of rectengular shapes). The design elements should be in white and shade of  grey color any number that you will choose.

Assignment-2.3

REPETITION and VARIATION - 3 Given: 7 rectangles, 13 triangles, 5 parallelograms and 5 circle Asked: Using the given design elements, make a 2D design organization on black cardboard (28.5 x 42cm). The exact dimentions of these elements are yours to decide. You should vary the scale of the elements, but not their propotions. he design elements should be in white and a single shade of grey color. Criticism:  While they are on the diagonal line there are very problemetic things. They are flying. background has not an exact shape. Background are also should be variation of themselves.

REPETITION and VARIATION - 2 Given:  5 rectangles, 11 triangles, 7 parallelograms Asked : Using the given shapes as design elements, make 2D design organization on a black cardboard (26.5 x 41cm). the exact dimentions of these elements are yours to decide. You should vary the scale of the elements, but not their propotions. The design elements should be in white and a single shade of grey color. Criticism : There are intricate shapes and unclosed areas in black , and it is flying.

Assignment-2

REPETITION and VARIATION Phase1. Initial design elements Select three tonal reas from your Assignment 1. Trace the outlines of these areas and generate three shapes. Cut out these shapes from cardboard in values of greyscale. These shapes will be your initial design elements. Phase2.  Design organization. On black cardboard (26,5 x 41cm), make a 2D design using your design elements. In this design, you need to repeat and vary these eleents to come up with a design organization. The variation operations that you can apply include scaling, rotating and/or mirroring. Remember that: - the selection of design the parts (design element) is not an arbitrary act; it should be guided by the whole (the design organization) - the number of design elements, the number of variation operations and the tonal values of the design elements should be decided based on your design principle(s). - all your design activities have to consistent and clear process. - you are responsible for the...

ASSIGNMENT -1 RENDERING Materials: A gadget to take digital pictures 3 A3 translucent papers (no thinner than 130gr) 1 A3 cardboard (no thinner than 200 gr) permanent acetate pen with M thicness Phase1. You are required to walk around the faculty building to take several photographs (with your smart phones or digital camera). From these photos, select one that contains all tonal values of grey-from white to black. by using the monochrome filter on your device, transform your photo to a greyscale mode. Then, print it out on an A3-size paper. Make sure you use the color-printing option. Phase2. . In these phase, you are required to create an abstract mapping of your image cardboard by using lines. To do this, follow the steps: - First overlay an A3 translucent paper on your printed photograph - Analyze the tonal range of your photograph; identfy and mark the areas with: (a) similar tonal values and/or (b) gradient tonal change. - Start rendering these identfied areas. EXAMPLES OF DESIGN PRINCIPLES FROM CAMPUS  DOMINANCE - CONTRAST This is an example of dominance-contrast .  The MM building is the dominance building in the campus. Because of its height, it is contrasting with the other buildings. Also, it has figure-ground relationship because we cannot understan which one is figure and which one is ground. HIERARCHY These are an examples of  hierarchy . The height of buildings is changing  bottom to the top. In the first picture, the low part of building is the largest part while the high part is the smallest. In the second picture, the curvilinier part is more remarkable due to its height and its diifferent shape. RHYTHM This is an example of rhyhtm . Niches, windows, air conditions and doors are repeating and creating a rhyhm. Also, air conditions are in different directions so they have variation in repetition . Also, it is an example of repetiton and variation . ...
