REPETITION and VARIATION

Phase1. Initial design elements
Select three tonal reas from your Assignment 1. Trace the outlines of these areas and generate three shapes. Cut out these shapes from cardboard in values of greyscale. These shapes will be your initial design elements.

Phase2. Design organization.
On black cardboard (26,5 x 41cm), make a 2D design using your design elements. In this design, you need to repeat and vary these eleents to come up with a design organization. The variation operations that you can apply include scaling, rotating and/or mirroring. Remember that:
- the selection of design the parts (design element) is not an arbitrary act; it should be guided by the whole (the design organization)
- the number of design elements, the number of variation operations and the tonal values of the design elements should be decided based on your design principle(s).
- all your design activities have to consistent and clear process.
- you are responsible for the design of the whole design field.
Before you start designing, you should look up for the definitions of the words; variotion, organization, system, part/whole, order, figure-ground relationship
